About This Property

The Poso Springs Ranch is a 160-acre in-holding that is surrounded by thousands of acres of Rio Grande
National Forest lands. The ranch is located about 20-miles west of US Highway 285 in the San Luis Valley
just outside of La Garita. Spring fed Poso Creek meanders through the parcel, consistently drawing Elk,
Mule Deer and Moose. Black Bear and Grouse have also been successfully hunted from the parcel.
There are miles and miles of Forest Service trails allowing one to hike, dirtbike, ATV or four-wheel
directly off the ranch boundaries. Nearby Cave and Carnero Creeks offer fishing for Brook Trout as a
bonus. The parcel is fully perimeter fenced with bottomlands sub irrigated by Poso Creek.

The 1.5-story lodge totals 1,934 square feet and is completely off-grid. It features a two-bedroom, one-
bathroom floorplan on the main level and a loft sleeping area with additional half-bath able to
accommodate a combined 10-14 guests. The lodge contains a fully-appointed kitchen, ample storage,
washer/dryer connections, propane wall heaters, wood burning stove, wifi and satellite tv access,
oversized windows and wrap-around decks.

A storage shed with an overhead door and covered storage overhangs is positioned adjacent to the
cabin. The shed houses the water storage tank for the cabin and a 48-volt DC to 120-volt AC solar
system with the remaining space utilized for equipment and tools. In addition, the owner recently
placed (3) newer metal storage containers. Water is provided by a State permitted developed spring
along Poso Creek and has provided reliable water flows even in drier years. With over 300 days of
sunshine, the solar system provides adequate power to the cabin. Propane is utilized for the wall
heaters and select light fixtures.

Elk hunting from the property has had a storied past with numerous 6X6 and an occasional 7x7 bulls
harvested from the ranch and on adjacent public lands. Mule Deer hunting from the ranch is very
respectable as well with sizable bucks roaming the area. This parcel is in Colorado Game Management
Unit (GMU) 79, which provides over-the-counter archery Elk tags (either sex – resident only).
Muzzleloader and rifle season are on a draw basis for both Elk and Mule Deer. However, based on
historic draw results, Elk tags are typically drawn from muzzleloader through 3 rd rifle season with zero
preference points depending upon choice and season (resident and non-resident). New for 2026
Colorado residents, a bull moose (season-choice) code is available.

Poso Springs Ranch is a versatile property, equally suitable as an annual big game hunting retreat,
gentleman’s cattle and horse ranch, weekend family gathering spot or ATV basecamp for exploring the
surrounding wilderness, etc. Call or email Brent Hedrick for additional information or to schedule your
private showing.
